Automated IT Administration

Automated IT for Simplified Systems Administration

Systems Management that is complicated for the IT administrator defeats its purpose. Overly complex software solutions too often exist as the roadblock to effective systems management and more streamlined automation of the IT administrator's tasks.

All K1000 IT administration tasks are accomplished via an easy-to-use, familiar tab-based user interface allowing administrators to accomplish the breadth of their systems administration tasks. They are designed for a variety of skill levels, from new user to expert, and include a comprehensive search capability which enables search across the entire K1000 database.

Single, Intuitive User Interface

The K1000 Management Center is the Web-based administrative interface that provides a unified and intuitive interface to all K1000 functionality. This easy-to-use interface keeps training time to an absolute minimum, provides for quick deployment, and enables technicians of all levels to administer the K1000. Full integration further reduces costs and improves ease-of-use by giving administrators a unified view across all IT management functions such as inventory, software distribution, service desk and security. User interface integration allows for a single sign on and fast switching between the K1000 Management and K2000 Deployment consoles for users of both appliances.

Ease of Deployment and Administration

Ease of Deployment and Administration

Plug-and-play deployment allows organizations to simply connect the K1000 to their network and immediately begin managing their systems. No software installation or customization is required, but easy agent deployment is facilitated in order to provide the full richness of the K1000 operations support. Dynamic groups ease IT administration by logically grouping computers by LDAP OU, department, location, IP address or any characteristic, significantly speeding software distribution. Wake-On-LAN capabilities save power and enable software updates or patches during off hours.

Home Page

Home Page

Our vision at Dell KACE is to provide an appliance-based approach to systems management, to create time for systems administration professionals, while saving money for their companies. Focusing on ease of use is a top priority. Having a single starting point for users that provides a quick view and understanding of the overall status and activity on the K1000 gives the user an easy means to check on current operations before proceeding with the next set of operations. The Home Page provides this starting point with a summary of the main tasks currently running in the system and updates from KACE support.

Guided Tour

Guided Tour

The guided tour helps users unfamiliar with an area of the K1000 by explaining features and providing context sensitive navigation designed to help a user explore the K1000, quickly illustrating how to use the functionality. The guided tour includes example exercises based on best practices to help the user get started in using a new area of the K1000.

LDAP and Active Directory Integration

LDAP and Active Directory Integration

Real time integration with directory services such as LDAP and Active Directory (AD) also speeds deployment and reduces maintenance costs. The K1000 allows organizations to leverage their directory services for the creation and management of device and user groups, and for user authentication and permissions. This accelerates deployment by allowing organizations to quickly set up management groups and define users. Maintenance costs are also kept low through real-time integration. As directories change, groups within the K1000 will dynamically be updated, which means no maintenance of LDAP information in the K1000 environment is necessary. Similarly, the K1000 will automatically reflect any new credentials for user authentication when changes are made in LDAP or AD.

Role-based Permissions

Role-based Permissions

Authentication, permissions and administrative rights management are all controlled through a single interface. The K1000 provides both functional permissions and device permissions allowing organizations to tightly control which IT administrators have access to specific K1000 functionality and machine groups. Device permissions are supported via the set up of separate Organizations within the K1000 - see K1000 organizational management.

Full Audit Trail

Audit tracking ensures key IT administration activities are tracked and reported by time and activity owner, improving governance.

Simple Upgrades

“One click” updates are easily accomplished via the K1000 Management Console, with no hardware upgrades required. Updates encompass the entire solution from operating system through to the application.

Nightly Maintenance

The K1000 automatically conducts nightly maintenance including system backup to a dedicated disk, a security audit and disk defragmentation.
